Cork City Council figures show decline in amount of processed waste

Figures available for the first 33 weeks of 2024 show that Cork City Council processed a total of 3,700.19 tonnes of waste, with 1710.41 tonnes coming from the Kinsale Road civic amenity site, and 772.2 tonnes coming from the cleansing department.

In 2023, Cork City Council processed 5,405.3 tonnes of waste.

Of that, 2,474.35 tonnes came from the civic amenity site at the Kinsale Road; 1,283.43 tonnes came from the cleansing department; 357.1 tonnes from drainage; 33.6 tonnes from traffic; 355.88 tonnes from housing; 681.44 tonnes from parks; and 98.16 tonnes from roads.

Some 84.2 tonnes of waste came from the Rochestown area; 27.58 tonnes from Glanmire; and 9.56 tonnes from Ballincollig.

In 2022, the council processed a total of 6,068.19 tonnes of waste.

Of that, 2,404.78 tonnes came from the civic amenity site at the Kinsale Road; 1,416.95 tonnes came from the cleansing department; 301.1 tonnes from drainage; 46.52 tonnes from traffic; 342.56 tonnes from housing; 989.48 tonnes from parks; and 139.46 tonnes from roads.

Some 83.32 tonnes of waste came from the Rochestown area; 339.48 tonnes from Glanmire; 2.74 tonnes from Blarney; and 0.58 tonnes from Ballincollig.

In 2021 Cork City Council processed 7840.46 tonnes of waste.

Of that, 3,170.87 tonnes came from the civic amenity site at the Kinsale Road; 1,457.99 tonnes came from the cleansing department; 269.72 tonnes from drainage; 72.42 tonnes from traffic; 404.72 tonnes from housing; 1,280.68 tonnes from parks; and 137.56 tonnes from roads.

Some 90.82 tonnes of waste came from the Rochestown area; 954.80 tonnes from Glanmire; 0.3 tonnes from Blarney; and 0.58 tonnes from Ballincollig.

“The waste is segregated at source in both waste facility sites. With the introduction of the Big Belly recycling bins on Oliver Plunkett Street this year we are now having this waste transferred to Panda for recycling,” the spokesperson said.
