Uisce Éireann, previously known as Irish Water, is working to restore water to customers in parts of Mallow ahead of New Year's Eve night.

It follows a major burst on the raw water main supplying the Cork town's Water Treatment Plant.

Repairs are expected to be completed this evening, with the organisation saying that it can typically take two to three hours for normal supply to be restored.

However, they say it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
