A 28-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of Mallow District Court charged in connection with the seizure of drugs worth an estimated street value of €185,000 in Cork over the weekend.

A 28-year-old man has appeared before a special sitting of Mallow District Court charged in connection with the seizure of drugs worth an estimated street value of €185,000 in Cork over the weekend.

Judge Treasa Kelly heard that gardaí recovered €150,000 of suspected ecstasy tablets and €35,000 of cocaine following a search of a premises in Cork last Saturday.

Jonathan Dennehy of Market Gardens, Togher, Cork city, has been charged with two offences arising out of the seizure of the cocaine.

Mr Dennehy was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine for sale and supply at Rochestown in Cork city on December 21.

Det Garda Darren Twomey gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. 

He said that that Mr Dennehy made no reply when the charge was put to him under caution.

Inspector Tony O’Sullivan said that gardaí had no objection to bail being granted in the case once certain conditions were met. 

Defence solicitor Eddie Burke said that his client was willing to comply with the conditions which were being sought by gardaí.

Mr Dennehy has to live at his home address in Togher and to inform gardaí of any change to said address.

He has to sign on three days a week at Togher garda station and be contactable 24 hours a day to gardaí.

Mr Dennehy also has to surrender his passport and give an undertaking not to apply for new travel documents whilst on bail.

Judge Kelly remanded Mr Dennehy on bail on these stringent conditions to appear before Cork District Court on March 25 next. 

It is anticipated that test results on the suspected ecstasy will be available on the next court date.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 30s who was arrested as part of the same probe was released without charge yesterday evening. 

A file will be sent to the DPP.
