15,000 ecstacy tablets, with an estimated street value of €150,000 were seized by gardaí. 

Two people were arrested following a garda operation in Cork on Saturday during which drugs with an combined value of €185,000 were seized. 

As part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy limed at disrupting dismantling and prosecuting drug trafficking networks across all levels, gardaí attached to the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit executed a search warrant at a house in Douglas at approximately 4pm. 

During the course of the search gardaí found and seized 15,000 ecstacy tablets with an estimated street value of €150,000 and half a kilogramme of cocaine (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €35,000.

A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene for an offence contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977. He was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a garda station in Cork city.

Subsequently, a female in her 30s was also arrested for an offence contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in Cork county.

The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

A garda spokesperson said investigations were ongoing.
