Aer Lingus has announced that their Cork to Amsterdam service will cease from March 17, 2025, with a Cork person who travels the route regularly calling this “super inconvenient”.

Customers who have already booked Cork to Amsterdam flights after that time period have been contacted by the airline to inform them of the update, with Aer Lingus advising that customers will receive a follow up email with alternative travel options or a refund if they would prefer.

A spokesperson for Cork Airport confirmed Aer Lingus notified the airport of the decision and added:

“We would like to thank Aer Lingus for their 26 years of continual service on this route.

“Meanwhile, direct connectivity with Amsterdam Schiphol will be maintained with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines offering twice-daily services to Amsterdam, with the ability to connect onwards to over 150 destinations.”

Ryanair only flies to Amsterdam from Dublin.

Maya Sullivan, who is from Cork originally but has been living in Rotterdam for the last five years, told The Echo: “I always fly Aer Lingus to Amsterdam, it is a lot cheaper than KLM.

“It’s been busy every time I’ve flown, even though the flight from Cork to Amsterdam is always at 6am it’s normally still full or nearly full, so it seems weird they are cancelling it.”

Ms Sullivan said this change will mean choosing from a considerably more expensive flight or flying from Dublin instead.

“It will mean anyone who wants to visit me will have to get to Cork City, get the bus to Dublin then fly out and then fly back to Dublin and get the bus back to Cork and then back to West Cork which is super inconvenient. And also I will have to do that to get home!”

A spokesperson for Aer Lingus said: “Services between Cork and Amsterdam will be discontinued from March 17. This decision was made after a thorough review of our route network and in response to changing travel demands.

“Aer Lingus remains deeply committed to Cork and our valued customers in the south of Ireland. In line with this commitment, we have launched two new summer routes from Cork Airport to Bilbao and Bordeaux.”
