Cork City Council has launched a new ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign as part of the night-time economy pilot programme.
The campaign, which began as part of the night-time economy plan, has also been taken up by the other pilot cities and towns for use in their own areas.
‘Safe & Sound’ is designed to promote safe and sound behaviour on a night out, and aims to encourage people to have respect for the wider community.
The initiative is a call to action for both visitors and residents to enjoy the night-time economy safely, while also being considerate of their surroundings.
The ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign will run in the Night-Time Economy pilot locations, which include Cork city, Galway city, Dublin City, Drogheda Louth, Sligo town, Buncrana, Donegal, Longford town, Kilkenny City, and Limerick city.
Respect
It will also be promoted through social media, radio advertisements, and posters on college campuses and in bars.
“At its core, this campaign is about fostering a sense of respect for our towns and cities,” said Cork City Council’s night-time economy advisor Fiona Collins.
“We want to create an environment where people feel safe, valued, and able to enjoy a great night out, while also looking out for the wellbeing of others.
“I am delighted to see the other towns’ and cities’ interest in this campaign — as part of a collaborative effort, the campaign focuses on re-educating people about the importance of respecting their towns and cities and ensuring that night-life remains a positive experience for all. Whether [you’re] heading out for a night of entertainment, dining, or socialising, the campaign’s key message is simple: Enjoy yourself, but be respectful of others and the areas you visit.”
