Love Island reality television show host Laura Whitmore will star next year in a stage adaptation of the novel The Girl on the Train at Cork’s Everyman Theatre.
The production, which is adapted for the stage by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel, from Paula Hawkins’s acclaimed novel, will take place from August 19 to August 23.
Directed by Loveday Ingram, Ms Whitmore will perform the lead role of Rachel Watson.
Having made her stage debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story in London’s West End in 2022, Ms Whitmore, who is from Dublin, is well known for, among other things, presenting Love Island on ITV2.
The Girl on the Train, which sold more than 20 million copies and was later adapted in to film by Dreamworks, tells the story of a woman who longs for a different life.
Ms Watson’s only escape is the seemingly perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy, and in love.
When the woman she’s been secretly observing suddenly disappears, Ms Watson finds herself entangled in a mystery that will reveal more than she could ever have anticipated.
In this thrilling adaptation, The Everyman Theatre has said that audiences can expect a performance that is both powerful and mesmerising, and the theatre has dubbed the production “an unforgettable theatrical experience”.
Following its Cork stint, the stage adaptation of The Girl on the Train will go further afield, and will be performed at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin from August 25 to August 30.
Booking for the Cork dates of the production is now open, with tickets available for purchase online via the Everyman Theatre website, everymancork.com.
Tickets can also be purchased in-person at the venue, or by calling the box office on 0214501673.
