Latest:

A status orange rain warning is set to come into place for Cork, as well as Kerry and Galway this weekend.

It is valid from midnight on Saturday through the night to 10am on Saturday morning.

It comes as Storm Bert is forecast which will see intense falls of rain over a short period of time.

Surface flooding, possible river flooding, and very difficult travelling conditions are predicted by Met Éireann.

The yellow warning for wind and rain, issued this morning, will be in place from 10pm Friday night to 12 noon on Saturday.

Met Éireann has today issued another weather warning, advising the public of possible flooding and travel disruption due to the approaching Storm Bert.

The national forecaster this morning issued a status yellow wind and rain warning for Ireland.

The warning comes into effect at 10pm tomorrow and will remain in place until noon on Saturday. 

Storm Bert will bring "very strong southeast to south winds coupled with heavy rain", Met Éireann said, advising that possible impacts could include localised flooding, travel disruption and fallen trees.

Separately, a countrywide status yellow low temperature and ice warning which was due to be lifted at midday today has been extended to midday tomorrow. 

A status orange snow and rain warning for Cork which came into effect at midnight came to an end at midday.
