Met Éireann issue snow warning for Cork this week

It started to turning cold across Ireland on Monday night as an Arctic airmass became established over the country, with Met Éireann advising that it looks set to persist for several days.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice will be in place from Thursday, November 21 at 4am until 12pm.

The warning was issued for Cork as well as Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford by Met Éireann, who warned it will be very cold with widespread frost and icy stretches with snowfall accumulations expected, due to cold Arctic air sinking over the country from today.

Potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility in wintry showers and travel disruption.

Warnings have been issued across Ireland as temperatures turn significantly colder with showers of sleet and snow expected, as well as frosty and icy nights – a weather advisory is in place until the end of the week.

It started to turning cold across Ireland on Monday night as an Arctic airmass became established over the country, with Met Éireann advising that it looks set to persist for several days.

Meteorologist Rebecca Cantwell said on Monday night, “It will continue cold right through the working week with daytime temperatures struggle to rise above 2 to 6 degrees and temperatures falling widely below freezing at night.

“We’ll see a widespread frost developing and icy stretched too, leading to slippery conditions under foot and possibly travel disruption in some areas.

“That northerly airflow will also bring scattered showers of rain, sleet and snow through the week and with those cold temperatures, that precipitation will tend to freeze, increasing icy conditions, so do take care when out and about.”

Looking ahead towards the end of the week, there is a chance of some rain, sleet or snow moving into the south on Thursday with the possibility of some wet and windy weather on the weekend but a high degree of uncertainty at this time, the national forecaster advised.
