'It's a dark day': Shock in North Cork after young man loses his life in two-car collision

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said that the road remains closed, with local diversions in place.
Sadness has been expressed after a young Cork man who died in a two-vehicle collision on Friday evening.
The incident, involving two cars, occurred at approximately 5.10pm, in the Cecilstown area.
The driver in one of the cars, a man aged in his 20s, was fatally injured as a result of the collision.
The driver of the second car, a man also aged in his 20s, remains at Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment, as following the collision, his injuries were described as serious.
Both men involved in the incident are understood to be local to the north Cork area.

, Fine Gael Cork north west councillor, John Paul O’Shea said: “It’s a very dark day for the local area.
North Cork Labour councillor, Eoghan Kenny said: “Most importantly I sympathise with the families, it’s very sad to see another fatal collision on our roads locally.
“This highlights the fact that road saftey is of upmost importance for all ages, and that ultimately, at this time of the year, extreme caution has to be paramount for all road users.”
Fianna Fáil councillor, Ian Doyle added: “It’s tragic, no question about it.
“Our hearts go out to the family.”
Fine Gael councillor, Tony O’Shea said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, and I hope that the other man will make a full recovery.” Fellow Fine Gael councillor, Liam Madden added: “It’s very sad, my sympathies go out to everyone involved.”
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
