Funding of more than €800,000 has been allocated to 13 animal welfare charities operating across in Cork.

The funding, announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, comes as part of a €6m package allocated to 101 animal welfare charities nationwide.

The Cork-based organisations will between them benefit from funding totaling €809,625, an increase of €4,000 on payments made to Cork charities under the initiative in 2023.

For the second year in a row, the largest single beneficiary in Cork is The Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll, which was allocated €300,000, followed by the CSPCA in Mahon, which was allocated €156,950.

Announcing the funds, Mr McConalogue acknowledged the tireless work done by people across the country to protect animal welfare.

“Animal welfare charities play a crucial role in helping animals in need, educating people, and raising public awareness and improving animal welfare,” said Mr McConalogue.

“The awards this year continue to focus on rewarding those organisations that have been successful in rehoming, providing educational initiatives, and promoting awareness of responsible pet ownership.

“These grants will support the organisations in the vital work they do.”
