Plans lodged for new primary care centre in East Cork

A decision on the plans is due on December 19 this year, and the application has been welcomed by general election candidate and councillor for East Cork Liam Quaide.
The Social Democrats councillor told
, “This is very promising news. I worked for eight years as a psychologist in Mallow primary care centre and saw the immense difference it made to healthcare in North Cork.
The proposed four storey building would measure 5,250m² and consist of HSE facilities including consulting rooms, treatment areas, meeting rooms, offices and support spaces, as well as two general practitioners suites.
A total of 123 parking spaces are proposed, including 87 standard car parking bays, eight disabled parking spaces, 12 parent and child spaces, 12 electric vehicle charging spaces and four motorcycle parking bays.
There would also be 60 bicycle parking spaces, 40 covered and 20 uncovered.
Additionally, a new vehicular access point to the site from Market Green Plaza is proposed as well as site lighting, hard and soft landscaping, and signage.
The planned development also includes a 23m² detached ancillary structure comprising ESB substation and electrical switch room and a 46m² secure waste compound at the rear of the proposed primary care centre.
The planning application is currently at pre-validation stage.
