A Cork radio presenter will be taking on the Camino in aid of Ireland’s leading emergency medical charity.

This year will mark the third year of the annual fundraising event, supporting the medical charity, CRITICAL.

Isabel Bartak-Healy, more popularly known as ‘Izzy Showbizzy’ of Cork’s 96FM, is the brand ambassador for this year’s event, and will be undertaking the journey from tomorrow,  September 29 to October 6.

All funds raised during the trip will be used to expand the charity’s teams of volunteer responders.

The charity has a growing network of responders operating in cities, towns and villages nationwide.

The volunteers include doctors, medical professionals and local community members who attend serious incidents and emergencies.

CRITICAL volunteers have responded to more than 828 calls this year, including cardiac arrests and road traffic collisions.

Ahead of the event, Ms Bartak-Healy said: “CRITICAL provides an invaluable service to local communities and public funds are vital in order to maintain and grow the network of volunteer responders around the country.

“I am delighted to be involved in this year’s Camino and help to raise awareness of the important work carried out by the responders.

“I have heard many inspiring stories of people who have walked or cycled the Camino and I am delighted to be taking part in this experience with CRITICAL,” she added.

“Anyone who would like to come along can register with the charity, or if anyone would like to donate they can do so online.”

Participants on the Camino will have the option to choose between a 300km cycle or a 120km walk.

Each group will be accompanied by a tour guide and a CRITICAL member.
