Woman, 40s, arrested after man is hospitalised following fire at house in Cork city 

The woman is being questioned at a Garda station in the southern region, where she can be held for up to 24 hours.

A woman in her 40s has been arrested after a man has been taken to hospital following a fire at a house in Cork in the early hours of this morning.

The fire broke out on College Road at around 1am this morning.

It was brought under control. However, there was extensive damage to the property.

The man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The woman is being questioned at a Garda station in the southern region, where she can be held for up to 24 hours.

A Garda spokesperson told The Echo: 

"Gardaí are investigating a fire which occurred at a residence on the College Road in Cork at approximately 1am this morning, Sunday, 22nd September 2024.

"The fire was brought under control by local fire services. Extensive damage was caused to the property. One male was taken University Hospital Cork for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A woman (40s) was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Southern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"The scene is preserved and a technical examination will take place today."
