Application portal for new Cork housing scheme to open this month

Local Fianna Fáil TD, Aindrias Moynihan has said the portal for the new affordable housing in Macroom will open on September 30th for people to apply

The application process for a new county Cork affordable housing scheme is set to open at the end of the month, with about a third of the homes reserved for local people.

The 15-unit affordable housing scheme is situated in Masseytown in Macroom, with at least 30% of the homes to be set aside for people from the local area.

Aindrias Moynihan, Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North-West, said Cork County Council’s application portal will be open for a few weeks from Monday, September 30. The council will then review the applications.

“They will then make direct contact with the applicants, send them on to the builder who then will liaise with the applicant, and their solicitor.”

Mr Moynihan has said that providing certain documentation during the application process is a vital step, and urged people to get their relevant documentation ready to apply.

“The key documentation people will need is their mortgage approval in principle from one of the pillar banks, bank statements are needed from all accounts including Revolut for example, and your Help to Buy revenue document that also verifies your first time buyer status,” he said.

“If you’re not a first-time buyer and you are a fresh starter, you will need court documentation such as a divorce decree for example or any other documentation.

“Photo ID is important, although a passport is specifically stated, a driver’s licence will suffice.

“Applicants will express an interest in a two- or three-bedroom house,” Mr Moynihan said.
