‘Look ahead with optimism’: Tánaiste extends well wishes to Leaving Cert students 

Leaving Cert students in Cork and across the country are this morning receiving their results, with students being encouraged to “look ahead with optimism for the future” on this “milestone” day in their lives.

Results this morning went live at 10am on the Candidate Portal.

In Cork, news of the results have begun to emerge.

The principal of Christian Brothers College (CBC) has paid tribute to the Leaving Cert class of 2024 upon receiving their grades.

Thirteen students at CBC have received the maximum points of 625, with one student achieving eight H1 grades.

Seven students were awarded seven H1s and five achieved six 6H1s.

In total, 151 students received their results today in the college with 22% obtaining over 600 points.

“We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating our students’ outstanding Leaving Cert results again this year,” principal David Lordon said.

“I’m sure the last few weeks have been an anxious time for the boys, but they can be very proud of their incredible results and are no doubt relieved that all the hard work and effort has paid off.

“Their Leaving Cert journey has been a real team effort, so it’s also a very special day for their parents and teachers who have supported and guided them every step of the way.

“It’s an exciting time for them now as they look forward to new opportunities and experiences in Third Level and beyond.” 

Taoiseach Simon Harris has congratulated the nearly 61,000 students nationally who are receiving their results on what he described as a momentous occasion.

“Today is one of those milestone days in your life and I hope our students across Ireland enjoy the final chapter in their school lives,” Mr Harris said.

“The range of emotions students will experience today will go from delight to disappointment but it’s so important to keep everything in perspective.

“Receiving the Leaving Cert results is not only about points on a page but the beginning of the next stage of your life.

“That might be college, work, an apprenticeship, a PLC or a path that you haven’t yet decided on.” 

In a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, Tánaiste Micheál Martin also wished students across the country well.

“There’s a very broad pathway for you in terms of the career of your choice whether it’s further education, on to college, going to work or indeed pursuing a trade.

“There are tremendous opportunities there, so it’s important to stand back and to reflect on the wide range of opportunities for you,” Mr Martin said, encouraging students to enjoy their day and “look ahead with optimism for the future”.

Education Minister Norma Foley also offered her well wishes.

“Today is a momentous day in the lives of almost 61,000 students across Ireland and your families and school communities as you receive your Leaving Certificate results.

“I would like to congratulate each and every one of you on this milestone, which brings reward and recognition for all your work and dedication over the past number of years.

“I hope you can enjoy the day and reflect on all you have achieved, as well as the friendships you made and the many ways you enriched the life of your school on your journey to today,” she said.

“This is an exciting moment in your life, as you look ahead to the many great and varied opportunities that lie ahead.

“Whether your next step will take you into the world of further or higher education, an apprenticeship, work, or other possibilities, I would like to wish you every success and happiness for all to come.” 

It was confirmed today by the State Examinations Commission that it intends to issue the results of any Leaving Certificate appeals on Friday, 27 September, and also that it intends to issue Junior Cycle results on Wednesday, 9 October.
