Carrigaline teenager remanded in custody on firearms and criminal damage charges

Gardaí arrested a teenager and charged him with a firearms charge and a count of causing criminal damage following an investigation of an alleged incident at a house in Carrigaline on Monday evening.

Garda David Shannon arrested 18-year-old Conor Farrell of 9 Ferney Court, Carrigaline, County Cork, and brought him before Cork District Court today.

The teenager was charged with two counts and when cautioned that he did not have to reply but that anything he might say would be written down and could be given in evidence he made no reply.

He was charged that on Monday July 15 at his home at Ferney Court, while committing an offence, namely criminal damage, in the course of a dispute, he produced in a manner likely to intimidate another person an article capable of inflicting serious injury, namely a black handgun, contrary to the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

The second charge was that he intentionally or recklessly caused criminal damage to a €400 flatscreen television at the family home.

Both charges refer to July 15 at the house at Ferney Court in Carrigaline.

Garda David Shannon said there was a garda objection to bail being granted to the accused.

Diarmuid Kelleher solicitor said there was no application for bail today.

Mr Kelleher applied for a court direction to the prison authorities that the teenager would be given whatever psychiatric attention he may require in prison.

Judge John King acceded to that application.

Conor Farrell was remanded in custody to appear at Cork District Court again on July 24. His court appearance on that date will be by video link from prison.

Other than the alleged weapon being referred to as a black handgun there was no other description of it in court.
