Five Cork students, who were the winners of the Cork City Student Enterprise Programme 2024, are preparing for an all-expenses-paid trip to the US this weekend.

The students, Zac Wallace, Marcus Conroy, Alex Healy, Taha Siddique, and Ahmed Baig, along with their teacher Karen Callanan, from Coláiste An Spioraid Naoimh, will be jetting off to the OtterCares Global Business Academy Programme in Colorado on July 13.

The team was sponsored by Otter Products to go on the trans-Atlantic trip following their success at the final of the Cork City Student Enterprise Programme earlier this year.

Their winning idea, “Comhar Cards” company, is a quiz card game that provides an innovative and enjoyable way of learning about Irish.

The product and packaging are also made from 100% recyclable materials.

The students will spend a week at Colorado State University developing their business idea, hoping to gain a greater understanding of the business world, engage with local and global business executives, develop leadership skills and experience the best of Fort Collins.

The Student Enterprise Programme is funded by the Government of Ireland through Enterprise Ireland and delivered by the 31 Local Enterprise Offices in local authorities throughout the country.

Since the Student Enterprise Programme began in 2003, more than 350,000 students have taken part, learning key skills on how to create a business, start a business and grow a business.
