Application process to open for new affordable housing scheme in Cork town

The Mayor of County Cork has welcomed news that applications for a new affordable-housing development will open in the county next week.

Cork County Council has announced that the scheme, which consists of 20 new family homes at a significant reduction from market price, will become available at midday on Monday, July 15.

Constructed by JOD Developments, the houses will be available for first-time buyers who do not own a home, although a small number of exceptions apply, such as Fresh Start applicants.

This development of 10 two-bed and 10 three-bed, A-rated family homes is located at Almans View, overlooking Bandon town.

The 10 two-bedroom houses will be available from €220,000, a reduction of 25.4% from market value; while the 10 three-bedroom houses will be available from €260,000, a reduction of 22.3% from market value.

The Mayor of the County of Cork, Fianna Fáil councillor Joe Carroll, said he welcomed the announcement of the affordable-housing scheme for Bandon.

“The development at Almans View offers high-quality, affordable homes in an exclusive development within walking distance to the town centre.

“The houses feature a bright spacious layout, high-end finishes throughout and are located in a great location with scenic views across the valley over the River Bandon,” Mr Carroll said.

Through the scheme, purchasers will enter an affordable-dwelling purchase arrangement with Cork County Council, with the council retaining a percentage equity share, equal to the difference between the market value and the price paid by the purchaser, expressed as a percentage of the market value of the dwelling, to a minimum of 5%.

Applications will be accepted between 12 noon on July 15 and noon on August 5 on Cork County Council’s website at https://www.corkcoco.ie.
