Munster Technological University (MTU) Bishopstown has announced that H2 Compliance will sponsor the MTU Athletics Club for the 2024/25 academic year, a first for the club.

H2 Compliance is a consulting firm that provides tailored solutions for chemical and environmental compliance.

The company will provide the club with financial support which will be directed towards its facilities and programmes.

The new partnership was marked at an awards ceremony at the university recently.

Director of H2 Compliance in Cork, Kevin Hoban, was on hand to present awards for athletes of the year, with Ben Donovan taking the men’s prize and Lucy Holmes coming out on top in the women’s category.

“H2 Compliance is delighted to build this association with the MTU Athletics team.

“Their success across their multiple campus locations, on the track and field is exemplary and the college’s dedication to growing the national talent pool through its coaching and teaching programmes is exemplary,” he said.

“The ongoing capital investment into the training facilities will ensure continued growth and recognition of the college, growing its national and international appeal — not to mention H2 Compliance is a familiar face on the campus, being within its grounds for many years.

“During this time, we have seen these incredible changes taking place before our eyes.

“We look forward to our association with the college, and wish it well as it completes its track development in preparation for their international sport event in July.”

Athletics development officer at MTU, Craig Harrington, said the college is “incredibly grateful” to H2 Compliance for their sponsorship.

“I know that their support will be transformative for the club and will go a long way in helping MTU’s athletes to flourish,” he added.

Marymount lauds local support

Marymount Hospital and Hospice has thanked its friends and partners at Thermo Fisher Scientific for their continued support.

The pharma services solutions company was recently recognised for its long-standing corporate social responsibility programme with the hospice, which Marymount said has made “a tremendous impact’.

Corporate social responsibility involves integrating social and environmental concerns into business operations on a voluntary basis.

Marymount University Hospital and Hospice has benefited from the help of a number of corporate organisations and businesses who have, as part of their corporate social responsibility, spent time working on a variety of voluntary projects.

As a result, Marymount gains support, professional expertise, and additional human resources to carry out programs and projects that might otherwise not be feasible.

Hospice garden open day

Marymount Hospital and Hospice will open its garden space on Thursday, July 4 with a programme for the whole family.

The Marymount Garden Project is a sanctuary for people to spend cherished moments with their loved ones while finding solace in nature.

The project comprises an arrival garden, a remembrance garden, a wildflower spiral meadow situated on a land-protected fairy fort, and a grove designed for families to gather, the total cost of which was donated by Friends of Leukaemia Cork.

The project is a collaboration with local Cork designer Valerie Bond and West Cork-based landscaper Colm Cronin, whose aim was to deliver gardens that will provide serenity and calm for patients, families, and staff at the facility.

Part of the Marymount Garden Project involved inviting 12 Cork-based artists to create an artistic response to the garden.

One final work from each artist will feature in Marymount Garden Project Calendar for 2025 and will be sold to raise funds for Marymount.

The launch of the garden project on July 4 will include a programme of music, activities, and tours from 12pm.

Ornithologist Seán Ronayne, who features in a recently aired documentary, called Birdsong, will launch the garden and speak about his journey recording the song of every species of bird in Ireland, as well as the birdlife he encountered around Marymount.

Chelsea Garden gold medalists Adam Hunt, Valerie Bond, and Colm Cronin will also be in attendance and will discuss Marymount’s new garden space.
