Patrick Seigne, a consultant anaesthetist/intensivist at Cork University Hospital (CUH) and dedicated board member, will participate in the 170km cycle which starts and finishes in Killarney to raise vital funds for Brú Columbanus and Anne McCarthy, another devoted board member and an ICU nurse at CUH, will volunteer as a medical professional at one of the charity cycle stations in Kenmare.

TWO board members of Brú Columbanus, a charity that provides ‘home from home’ accommodation to relatives of patients in Cork hospitals, are to participate in the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle on July 6.

Patrick Seigne, a consultant anaesthetist/intensivist at Cork University Hospital (CUH) and board member, will participate in the 170km cycle, which starts and finishes in Killarney, to raise funds for Brú Columbanus.

This year, Brú Columbanus is one of the main beneficiaries of the annual cycle, with the charity appealing to cyclists to select it as their chosen charity.

Dr Seigne said he continually witnesses the positive impact of Brú Columbanus. “Every day I see the impact that Brú Columbanus has on the loved ones and patients in the ICU and neonatal units.

“The families of the patients tell us all the time how grateful they are to be able to stay at such a wonderful haven, but I feel that I’m the lucky one to be a part of this wonderful organisation,” he said.

Anne McCarthy, another devoted board member and an ICU nurse at CUH, will volunteer as a medical professional at one of the charity cycle stations in Kenmare to ensure the safety of all the participants.

“It’s an honour to be able to give back to a charity that’s accommodated over 10,000 families over the years,” she said.

Brú Columbanus paid tribute to the two board members.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to them for their invaluable contributions, and we encourage the community to support their efforts.

“Remember, your donation, no matter the size, will help us provide a comforting place for more families in their time of need,” the charity said.

Registration for the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle is still open.
