It’s a case of lightning striking not once, not twice, but three times for a Rochestown supermarket as the Centra store in the Cork suburb has been revealed as the seller of a €1 million winning Daily Millions ticket purchased there this week.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Centra store on the Rochestown Road and the numbers which netted its owner a cool €1 million were drawn in Thursday night’s Daily Million draw.

Store manager Kim Hickey was over the moon that one of the shop’s customers has won a ticket that could change their lives, adding that it was the third huge win gained by tickets sold in the supermarket.

Delighted

“Believe it or not we’ve had a couple of big wins in this store,” said Ms Hickey.

“History has repeated itself and we already sold a Daily Millions top prize ticket worth €1m to one of our customers back in 2020. Then, two years later, we sold a EuroMillons Plus top prize ticket worth €500,000.

“So we couldn’t believe it when we got the call that we’d sold another winning ticket that’s made someone an overnight millionaire.

“It’s unreal – we’re just delighted for whoever it is.

“Our shop would be very busy with locals, but we would also get a few tourists and visitors passing through at this time of year.

“It’s great news for the community too and we are all delighted here in store,” said Ms Hickey.

According to the National Lottery, the ‘Cork winner’ has made contact with the organisation and arrangements were being made for them to collect their cheque. The winning ticketholder is the sixth to win the Daily Million top prize during 2024 and the fifth Irish winner to be made a millionaire in the space of a week.

“It’s the third time a player has scooped the Daily Million top prize of €1m in just five days,” said a spokesperson for the National Lottery.

“I can confirm our Cork winner was on the ball and has already contacted our claims team – arrangements are being made for them to collect their prize in Lotto HQ.”

Meanwhile a EuroMillions Plus player in the Clonsilla area of Dublin scooped the Top Prize of €500,000 in last night’s draw.

The Dublin player has become the ninth EuroMillions Plus top prize winner of 2024 following wins by players in Cork(1), Dublin(2), Wicklow(2), Tipperary, Kilkenny and Laois (1 each).
