A CORK post office is inviting everyone in its local community to a party and summer barbecue to celebrate its second birthday under new management.

Thursday, May 30, marks the two-year anniversary of Blarney Post Office reopening, and the birthday is being celebrated with a gathering from 3pm.

Blarney postmaster Daniel Lehane said everyone in the post office was looking forward to the party.

“We are celebrating the two-year birthday since we took over the business, and in that time we have gone from strength to strength.

“In the past year we have hosted Cork City Council for a register of electors day, and we have also gone to local events to promote our insurance deals and more,” Mr Lehane said.

“An Post is more than just stamps, we are wild about promoting every last product and offer we can offer.”

A Blarney native, Mr Lehane took over as postmaster in May 2022, after a high-profile recruitment campaign, during which some concerns had been expressed about the future of the branch if a new postmaster could not be secured.

Two years on, Mr Lehane said Blarney Post Office is going from strength to strength and in the mood to celebrate.

There will be barbecued grub on offer, free of charge, and some of the local businesses that work hand-in-hand with An Post and the post office will have stands there to advertise the services they provide.

There will be a donation collection for the St John’s Ambulance, as well as a free draw which will offer the chance to win a €250 One-For-All voucher.

“Everyone is more than welcome to come along to our birthday party, have a chat and a bite to eat.

“We hope to see you there, and to offer in person a big thank you to everyone who has supported us,” Mr Lehane added.
