A NEW wellbeing room which will provide a space to run health and wellbeing programmes and community services has been opened at The Glen Resource Centre.

The space was officially opened this week by Minister of State at the Department of Health, Cork North Central TD Colm Burke, who said the new wellbeing room marks “such a positive step forward for the local community”.

“I would encourage all to get involved, to experience first-hand some of the empowering new initiatives and courses being run in the wellness room at The Glen Resource Centre,” the Fine Gael TD added.

The wellbeing room is funded by HSE/Cork Kerry Community Healthcare and Cork City Council.

Deputising for the Lord Mayor of Cork, Independent councillor Mick Finn said spaces such as the new wellness room are, “key to providing opportunities to learn in local accessible venues”.

The local community can enjoy a wide variety of free programmes at the space in collaboration with the Health Action Zone, Dillon’s Cross Project, Cork City Partnership and Cork Prison, with popular courses including the Sláintecare healthy food made easy programme, barista courses and demonstrations, pilates, mindfulness and more.

Sorcha Ní Chrualaoich, HSE principal community worker with Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, welcomed the launch of the wellbeing room.

“The Health Action Zone and community health work partners here are committed to providing an exciting programme of activities to people in The Glen, Blackpool, Ballyvolane, Mayfield, and the wider community healthcare network, which further enhances the health and wellbeing of the community,” she said.

Catherine McCullagh, healthy food made easy (HFME) tutor, added: “I just finished my HFME tutor training and I can’t wait to start delivering community courses soon. The room is fantastic.”
