A CONCERT is taking place in Cork city this weekend to raise funds for a school for deaf children in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopia Deaf Project, a Togher-based volunteer group dedicated to supporting deaf children in the African country, is hosting a star-studded concert in Cork this weekend to raise funds for its vital work.
The charity concert will take place at Holy Trinity Church on Father Mathew Quay this Saturday at 7pm.
A spokesperson for EDP said:
“We are delighted that the inspirational Whitehorse Gospel Choir, along with solo performers Aine Whelan and U.M.A.N. have generously agreed to participate for free in what we hope will be an inspirational night of music and song.
“I’m sure there will even be an opportunity for your readers to sing along.” The EDP recently received ‘The Pride of Cork Award’. The volunteer group is dedicated to supporting deaf children in Ethiopia to gain access to education.
In particular, the EDP supports the running of the Ambo Deaf School, where 100 children are presently benefiting from the opportunity to go to school.
The EDP was instrumental in setting up the Ambo Deaf School and is committed to supporting deaf children trapped in such isolation to attend school and experience the joy of inclusion, learning and self-realisation.
“We love the fact that our concert, which is dedicated to the joy of sound, something the children who will be the beneficiaries won’t ever experience, will help to transform their lives, bringing them a whole other sense of joy and happiness,” the spokesperson added.
Tickets for the event cost €15 and can be purchased online at Eventbrite or directly from the sacristy at Holy Trinity Church.
