The current chief executive of Kerry County Council, Moira Murrell, has been recommended to take over as Cork County Council’s CEO by the Public Appointments Service, it has been confirmed.
The news was confirmed in a statement from Kerry County Council on Tuesday.
The announcement follows a recruitment process which arose after the decision of former Cork County Council CEO, Tim Lucey, to take up a position at the head of the Greyhound Racing Ireland last November.
Mr Lucey stepped down from the €175,000 per year position in County Hall in September and was replaced on an interim basis by Valerie O’Sullivan, who had been heading the county’s Southern Division with responsibility for planning, roads and municipal districts until then.
Ms Murrell had led Cork County Council’s Northern Division for four years before she took up the role as Kerry County Council CEO in 2014 and had served the maximum two full terms of five years each in that post.
