Glanfest celebrates what makes Glanworth special

Cork camogie and football star Rena Buckley will be part of the panel discussion ‘Grassroots’ which is part of Glanfest.

The annual Glanfest extravaganza is in full swing with a celebration of music, community spirit and local talent taking place at the Glanworth GAA grounds until May 5.

This year’s music lineup includes some of Ireland’s most beloved acts, with Mundy, The Fógues, Riff Shop, and Deuces Wild headlining the four-day event, with performances taking place across Saturday and Sunday.

Comedian Cornelius Patrick O’Sullivan and music from The 3 Buachaillí will also feature, ensuring there’s something for everyone at the festival.

Part of the festivities includes a panel discussion ‘Grassroots’ featuring esteemed guests such as former Tipperary hurling manager and Sunday Game pundit Liam Sheedy, Cork ladies football and camogie legend Rena Buckley, and All-Ireland winner with Offaly Johnny Pilkington.

The discussion, which will take place from 7pm this evening, will delve into the importance of grassroots sports in local communities and the impact it has on fostering a sense of belonging.

During daytime events, attendees can involve themselves in a number of activities that capture the essence of community life in Cork. These include the farmers market, showcasing the finest local produce, crafts, and delicacies, as well as the family fun day, which will offer a wide range of entertainment for all ages, including interactive workshops, games, and attractions.

Pet lovers can also look forward to the highly anticipated dog show, where furry friends will compete for top honours in various categories.

A raffle will also take place with over 30 amazing prizes up for grabs, as well as music from a DJ until late.

Chairman of Glanfest, Stephen Dunne, said: “Glanfest is a celebration of everything that makes our community special.

“From our vibrant social scene to our rich sporting heritage and close-knit families. We’re thrilled to welcome visitors from near and far to join us for a day of festivities and fun.”

Title sponsors include Fáilte Ireland, Pure Cork, Mitchelstown Credit Union and Cork County Council.

The Glanworth GAA grounds are located between Fermoy and Mitchelstown.

Three-day event passes are €70, one day passes are €35 and tickets to the ‘Grassroots’ discussion panel for €20 are still available for purchase online at www.glanfest.ie.
