The counting of votes in the upcoming local elections in County Cork will commence at approximately 4pm on Saturday, June 8, Cork County Council has announced.

The counting of votes will take place in three centres across the county, the returning officer for local elections in County Cork, Maurice Manning, has confirmed.

The start time for the counting of local election ballots in Co Cork is dependent on when the papers are made available by the County Sheriff.

All of the county boxes, which will contain European and local ballot papers, will be opened in Mallow on the morning of Saturday, June 8.

The European election ballot papers will be transferred to the Ireland South count centre, which will be in Nemo Rangers, where the count is expected to begin on the morning of Sunday, June 9.

The local election ballots will be transferred to the local count centres for the commencement of the counts, which are expected to begin at approximately 4pm on the Saturday afternoon.

It is likely that counts will be adjourned that evening and will then resume on Sunday, June 9.

Counting of local election ballots will take place at three centres in North Cork, West Cork and at Cork County Hall.

The West Cork local electoral areas (LEAs) are Bantry-West Cork, Bandon-Kinsale, and Skibbereen-West Cork.

The count centre for the West Cork LEAs is in the community centre in Clonakilty, and the count centre supervisor is Sean O’Callaghan.

The North Cork LEAs are Fermoy, Kanturk and Mallow, and the count centre for the North Cork LEAs is in the Mallow Youth Centre, where the count Centre Supervisor is Seamus De Faoite.

The South Cork LEAs are Macroom, Carrigaline, Cobh, and East Cork, and the count centre for the South Cork LEAs is in County Hall, where the count centre supervisor is Nicola Radley.
