Motorcyclist who died in Cork collision on Tuesday named locally

The motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in a fatal road traffic collision in Cork yesterday evening has been named locally as Paul Harrington.

The late Mr Harrington, aged in his mid twenties, of Brookvale, Ballyvolane, was fatally injured following a collision with a van shortly before 6pm at Ballinahina, White’s Cross.

Mr Harrington worked as an auto electrician for Wizer Energy and formerly, Tim O'Keeffe Electrical.

He is survived by his parents Declan and Margaret; sisters, Olivia and Deirdre and girlfriend Kamile.

Requiem Mass will be held at 10am on Saturday in the North Cathedral, followed by buriel at St Catherine's Cemetery in Kilcully.

Condolences were shared earlier today by community members and local councillors, with Independent north-east ward councillor, Kenneth O’Flynn saying: “To the family, I offer my deepest condolences and unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time.” 

Further offering his condolences, Green Party north-east ward councillor Oliver Moran said: “Everyone's thoughts are with the family of the young man whose life is now lost.”

Gardaí continue to appeal to any witnesses of this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the Ballinahina area between 5.45pm and 6.10pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Mr Harrington is one of three motorcyclists to die on Cork roads in recent days. 

A man in his 60s died following a collision involving a motorcycle and a truck at Toureenfineen, near the Cork-Kerry border, this morning. 

And on Sunday, Niall Murphy, from the Wilton Road, was fatally injured following a single vehicle collision which occurred on the R579 at Glen South, Banteer, at approximately 6.45pm.
