'The community is heartbroken': Condolences offered to family of Cork man who died in collision 

Condolences have been shared today for a Cork man who died yesterday evening in a fatal road traffic collision.

The incident, involving a motorbike and a van, occurred shortly before 6pm in Ballinahina, White’s Cross.

The man, understood to be aged 25, has been recognised by locals as a resident of the Kilcully area. 

Gardaí, four units from the Cork City Fire Brigade, and a team from the National Ambulance Service attended the scene. 

The road remained closed overnight to enable the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene.

It remains closed this lunchtime and is expected to re-open later today. 

Chair of the Kilcully and Ballincrokig Residents Association, Joan Lewis said that community members are “heartbroken” following the incident, which has come two weeks after a public protest calling for traffic calming measures in the area.

“That’s the seventh fatality on that stretch of road, from Dublin Pike to Ballinahina, in the last 10 to 15 years.

“Another life lost. The community is heartbroken,” she said.

Independent north-east ward councillor, Kenneth O’Flynn said:  “To the family of the latest victim, I offer my deepest condolences and unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time.” 

Further offering their condolences, Green Party north-east ward councillor, Oliver Moran said: "It's another terrible incident in the Kilcully area and everyone's thoughts are with the family of the young man whose life is now lost.”
