SIX people were arrested in Cork city centre on Sunday night following what gardaí have called “an altercation involving a large number of people”.

The incident occurred at approximately 9.40pm on Sunday night on Caroline Street, when a number of garda units responded to reports of an altercation involving a large number of people.

Six people were arrested for public order offences and garda investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokesperson told The Echo: “Gardaí are investigating a public order incident that occurred in Cork city on the evening of Sunday April 14, 2024.

“At approximately 9:40pm, Gardaí received reports of an altercation involving a large number of people on Caroline Street,” they said.

“A number of Garda units attended the scene and six persons were arrested for public order offences.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
