One of Cork city’s best-loved sporting and social occasions, the mini marathon raises over €1.5m for local charities annually, and between 4,000 and 5,000 people are expected to participate in this year’s event.

The editor of The Echo, Gráinne McGuinness, said all in the newspaper were thrilled to be working on preparations for the mini marathon.

“This event is one of the most important days of the year for us all in The Echo and Echolive.ie,” she said.

“We know how much this event means to the people of Cork, so naturally — as the paper and website of Cork — we take huge pride in it.”

Ms McGuinness said the mini marathon was a massive day for those who enter with a dream of winning, and a really enjoyable one for the many participants who take part in order to fundraise for causes close to their hearts.

“And of course, it makes a real difference to so many local charities who have benefitted from the millions raised over the years,” Ms McGuinness said.

“It is also great fun; rain or shine, the buzz is always great and the post-match atmosphere in Kennedy Park is legendary.

“So we are encouraging everyone who has entered before, and anyone who has yet to experience the mini marathon, to save the date and join us in looking forward to what’s going to be a great day on the streets of Cork.”

Further details, including registration and route, will be published in The Echo closer to the date.
