CORK City Council is seeking the public’s views on how to enhance five streets in the heart of the city.

The local authority is currently conducting a survey in relation to the proposed ‘Cook St, Marlboro Street, Princes Street, Grafton Street, and Rochford’s Lane Renewal Scheme’.

“The project aims to enhance the vitality, accessibility, connectivity and safety, as well as the sense of play, place, and space within these streets,” said Cork City Council.

“The scheme is focused on the streetscape, and we are collecting data and looking to gather insights from businesses/ traders and the general public.”

Green Party councillor Dan Boyle welcomed the move, telling The Echo: “Basically it’s to enhance the work on those particular streets from the original pedestrianisation.

“It’s felt that these areas need additional work to improve the experience for pedestrians and there are certain proposals in terms of servicing, and street furniture and the like that they’re looking for the public’s opinions on.

“I welcome it. I think it’s a sign of the council constantly reviewing the pedestrianisation of the city and how it can be made better.”

It is understood the survey is a pre-consultation before formal proposals are made. The survey, which closes on April 17, can be found on Cork City Council’s social media pages.
