Sea Church in Ballycotton will host Folk and Trad Fest from May 2 to May 6. Among the acts performing at the festival are Altan, Tara Breen, and John Spillane.

BUSKERS are being sought to perform in Ballycotton during the upcoming Folk and Trad Fest.

Hosted by Sea Church in Ballycotton village from May 2 to 6, the festival will have an outstanding lineup of both Irish and international artists, including acclaimed Irish folk singer and founding member of Clannad, Moya Brennan.

In its second year, buskers are invited to get in touch with festival organisers, for the chance to perform at a number of scenic spots around the village of Ballycotton, including in the unique and historical Ballycotton Lighthouse.

Festival organisers will choose one of the busking acts to perform at Sea Church on the bank holiday Monday, becoming part of the festival’s lineup. The winning act will also be offered the opportunity to record a music session at Clay Castle studios in Youghal.

“We are thrilled to announce the return of the Ballycotton Folk and Trad Fest for another year of exceptional music and entertainment,” Sea Church general manager John Kidney said.

“We’re delighted to offer the opportunity for chosen acts to busk around the village, there are so many great spots, including the stunning Ballycotton Lighthouse, which has amazing acoustics too.

“We’re also in the lucky position to be able to offer one of the busking groups the chance to record at the nearby Clay Castle studios, which is bound to be a fulfilling experience.”

Celebrations will kick off with acclaimed trad band Altan performing on May 2, followed by renowned fiddle player Tara Breen, and the legendary John Spillane. Other notable performers include Pádraig Rynne and Davie Ryan, as well as contemporary folk harpist, singer, and composer Brídín.

Buskers interested in performing are invited to send a short video, no more than one minute in length, to john.kidney@flynncush.com by April 19. It is preferable that interested acts have a number of original songs ready to perform at the festival.
