Cork gardaí detect motorist with no tax and false insurance disc using handheld ACTIVE device

The motorist was stopped at a garda checkpoint in Cork in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Gardaí in Cork earlier this week detected a driver with no tax and a falsified insurance disc using the garda ACTIVE Mobility Service device.
An Garda Síochána’s Cork Road Policing Unit arrested a man in the Cork city area on Tuesday morning at approximately 5.30am at a routine check-point.
The man, who was stopped at the check-point, was travelling without valid tax or insurance and was detected using the handheld Garda ACTIVE Mobility device.
This bright spark below in Cork figured he could trick us with this top notch artwork.

We might have missed being able to admire it at 5:30am on Tuesday morning but for our Mobility Device.#SaferRoads pic.twitter.com/lWlxMPDIaT
A spokesperson for the Gardaí told
that after a member of the force noticed multiple incorrect dates printed on a falsified insurance disc, the handheld device enabled officers to access the insurance data-base to verify registration. The spokesperson also said that an investigation is currently ongoing, and that the incident is before the courts.
A poem shared on social media by An Garda Síochána, following the arrest, stated: “A motorist with a fake disc so sly, on the windscreen, it told a big lie. But our Mobility Device made it stop in its tracks when it discovered the car had no insurance nor tax.”
As of February 1, a total of 15,163 ACTIVE Mobility Service devices were deployed nationwide, providing roads policing units with the ability to scan registration plates, and identify those travelling without tax, insurance, and valid NCT, as well as the type of license the registered driver holds.
The Active Mobility Service devices were introduced as a key project under the ‘A Policing Service for the Future’ initiative, which commenced in December of 2019.
