Gardaí are currently at the scene of the fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision that happened shortly before 7am at the outbound lane on the Lower Glanmire Road (N8) in Tivoli. 

A motorist has died following a collision in Cork city today. 

Gardaí are currently at the scene of the fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision that happened shortly before 7am at the outbound lane on the Lower Glanmire Road (N8) in Tivoli. 

A garda spokesperson said that one person, the sole occupant of the only car involved in the collision, has been pronounced dead. 

The services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested and an examination of the scene will be carried out.

The Lower Glanmire Road (N8) at Tivoli remains closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours. 

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Lower Glanmire Road (N8) between 6:30am and 7am are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 4558510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station," a garda spokesperson said.

EARLIER

Emergency services attended at the scene of a road traffic collision on the N8 this morning. 

The incident occurred in the Tivoli area. 

The affected section of the road remains closed. 

Motorists are being urged to drive with care in the area and are advised that traffic diversions are in place both inbound and outbound. 

Inbound traffic is being diverted from the Dunkettle Roundabout via the Jack Lynch Tunnel and Glanmire while outbound traffic is being diverted from Silversprings via the North Ring Road.

EARLIER 

Motorists are being urged to drive with care on the N8 this morning. 

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) says that a vehicle is on fire on the road (eastbound) between Tivoli and the Dunkettle Roundabout. 

It said that all lanes are blocked in both directions east and west bound due to the vehicle on fire.

"Drive with care and expect delays," the TII said. 

Gardaí are advising that traffic diversions are in place both inbound and outbound.

Inbound traffic is being diverted from the Dunkettle Roundabout via the Jack Lynch Tunnel and Glanmire while outbound traffic is being diverted from Silversprings via the North Ring Road.

Meanwhile, motorists are advised that the Jack Lynch Tunnel will close from 9pm until 4am on March 20 and 21 this week.
