A man in his 20s has been charged in connection with a spate of arson attacks in the city centre on Sunday evening.

He is due to appear in court tomorrow morning.

Five units of Cork City Fire Brigade attended the scenes of five fires at various retail stores across Cork city centre on Sunday.

The alarm was raised shortly before 5.15pm when Cork City Fire Brigade received a call to respond to a fire on Patrick St.

The initial call was followed by four calls at the various other premises in the city centre.

A Garda spokesperson tonight confirmed that Gardaí “have charged a man in his 20s in connection with a number of criminal damage incidents which occurred in Cork city on Sunday". 

The spokesperson said the man is due to appear before Cork District Court tomorrow morning.
