The MTU Cork School of Music BA Musical Theatre will hold a run of  Our House, a musical based on songs by Madness, from today until Saturday at the Everyman Theatre.

Directed by Christine Scarry the showcase for the Musical Theatre students, the show will feature a live band of students from MTU Cork School of Music, under teh musical direction of David Hayes and is choreographed by Thérèse O’Sullivan.

In the musical, the audience meets Joe on the night of his 16th birthday when he makes a decision between right and wrong that will impact the rest of his life while trying to impress his girlfriend, Sarah.

From that moment on, the audience begin to follow two versions of Joe, based on the two options he has to choose from. Through these parallel worlds of good and bad, the audience is led towards an explosive finale as they try to figure out what decision he made.

Paul Morey Stout and Zoey Moynihan play the lead roles of Joe and Sarah, with MTU students Zach O’Brien, Anne-Marie O’Brien, Cillian Calvert, Darragh Malone, Adam Byrne, Julia Cahill, Katie-Ann Harris, Hedwig Hauskeller, Andy Armitage, Caoileann Smith and Aoife Hosford also among the cast.

They are undertaking MTU’s specialist degree course aimed at 'triple-threat' performers, which is centred on the three disciplines of singing, dancing and acting.

Students receive an intensive training in all three disciplines throughout their studies, supported by theory classes, and the demanding schedule of study and practice comes to a focus in a public production in each year.

Our House, based on the book by Tim Firth, comprises of comedic writing, signature dance routines and musical hit after hit, including ‘Baggy Trousers’, ‘This Must Be Love’ and ‘House of Fun’.

The amateur production of Our House is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International, who supplied performance materials.

The show was first produced at the Cambridge Theatre, London in October 2002, produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, Rupert Lord, Andre Ptaszynski and Phil McIntyre in association with Madness.

Tickets are on sale for €28, with a €25 concession and a €13 student rate also available here: https://everymancork.com/events/our-house/.
