OVER €50,000 of Government funding has been pledged for safety improvement works in Churchfield.
Councillor Tony Fitzgerald welcomed the funding of €51,800 for the works at St Colmcille’s Rd, Churchfield, in the vicinity of Gerry O’Sullivan Park and Scoil Padre Pio.
This funding comes under the Low Cost Safety funding, which is provided by the Department of Transport for local authorities to carry out road safety improvement works at locations on local and regional roads.
The proposed works include the construction of a 3m-long flat-top speed ramp to the north of the junction, and the installation of a zebra crossing facility across the flat-top ramp, with flashing amber belisha beacons and zig-zag approach-road markings.
Ancillary improvements will also be implemented where necessary.
Mr Fitzgerald said he understands that the works are ready to go, saying: “Hopefully, the works can commence without delay.”
