Man caught in possession of stolen power tools at Cork city address jailed
Judge Helen Boyle imposed a sentence of two years but suspended the last six months of that sentence.
A young man who confessed to having possession of thousands of euro worth of stolen power tools at an address in Fair Hill in Cork in October 2020 has been jailed for 18 months.
Hughie Nevin, with an address at Hillview Drive, Portlaoise, County Laois, appeared at Cork Circuit Criminal Court by video link from prison.
He was represented in court by defence barrister Brendan Kelly who said that the defendant’s plea of guilty has spared various injured parties the time and trouble of coming to court to give evidence in a contested case.
Mr Nevin pleaded guilty to 13 counts of possessing stolen power tools on October 13 2020 at Bridevalley View, Fair Hill, Cork.
Judge Helen Boyle imposed a sentence of two years but suspended the last six months of that sentence.
The 25-year-old married man said, “Thank you, Judge,” as the sentence was imposed.
The judge agreed that the plea of guilty had spared the injured parties coming to court.
Prosecution barrister, Katherine McGillycuddy, acknowledged that sentencing in the case should be backdated to January 18 2024 to allow for time already spend in custody in relation to the case.
