Gardaí launch murder investigation into death of Michael Foley, 61, in Macroom

GARDAÍ have tonight begun a murder investigation into the circumstances around the death of 61-year-old Michael Foley in Macroom.
A post-mortem was completed today by State Pathologist, Dr. Margot Bolster at Cork University Hospital.
Gardaí said the results of the post-mortem were not being released for operational reasons.
However, Mr Foley was found with visible head injuries and is understood to have suffered a violent death.
The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer and a Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased.
Examinations of the scene are ongoing tonight.

A Garda search team combed the area around the property at Annville in Barrett’s Place today searching for clues as to how Mr Foley died following the discovery of his body on Tuesday at his home.
The town was left reeling in shock with locals speaking of their horror and a neighbour describing Michael Foley as ‘quiet’ and ‘a man who enjoyed life’.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have recently spoke to Mr Foley to come forward to them.
