Sergeant Aisling Murphy said he had 77 previous convictions, including 29 for being drunk and a danger and 23 for being threatening and abusive.

A seven-month jail term was imposed on a young man for a spate of shoplifting in Cork city.

23-year-old Evan Hurley of St. Vincent’s hostel, Anglesea Terrace, Cork, pleaded guilty to the offences at Cork District Court where he was sentenced by Judge Mary Dorgan.

On September 23 2023 he stole an eight-pack of cider at Dunnes on Merchants Quay.

He stole a €26 bottle of vodka at Tesco on Paul Street on October 15.

On December 24 he was drunk and threatening on Anglesea Terrace. Garda Ellen O’Herlihy found that he was extremely aggressive.

On January 5 he stole a Ralph Lauren shirt valued €119 at Brown Thomas and €28 worth of alcohol from Spar on MacCurtain Street.

Also on January 5 2024 theft of a jacket valued €100 at JD Sports, St. Patrick’s Street, Cork.

On the same day he went to Lifestyle and stole a hoodie and two pants valued €210.

The following day he was back at the JD Sports stealing a hoodie valued €170.

On January 12 he stole €615 worth of clothing – yet again at JD Sports on St. Patrick’s Street.

On January 24 he went back to Lifestyle Sports and stole tracksuits valued €390.
