A CORK artist has caught the attention of Eurovision hopeful Bambie Thug who will be sporting his designs on the Late Late Show tomorrow.
Barber and designer Paul Mac is locally renowned for his headpieces and fashion creations which have graced the pages of publications from Vogue to Rolling Stone Magazine. He is currently balancing his work with running his business the Paul Mac Special Barber Shop on Paul Street.
Non-binary performer Bambie from Macroom will be wearing Paul’s creations-which include a head piece and corset — tomorrow as they battle it out in a Late Late Show Eurosong sing-off.
The winner will have the chance to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song contest in Malmo, Sweden in May.
Six acts altogether will be vying for the honour including Erica-Cody with her entry Love Me Like I Do, Techno artist Alisha ( Go Tobann) rapper JyellowL ( Judas) and Isabella Kearney ( Let Me Be The Fire).
Bambie’s offering Doomsday Blue takes the form of a culmination of genres to create a unique sound. Paul described the designs Bambie plans to wear for their appearance on the programme.
“I have a gold, kind of skeleton bone corset that they are wearing in the footage introducing the live performance. The headpiece will be worn as the results are called out as Bambie needs to be mobile on stage. I’ve made the headpiece to give the appearance of antlers which were inspired by the name Bambie. There’s a crescent in the centre along with jewels and embellishment. I added these as a nod to lyrics in the song ‘I guess you’d rather have a star than the moon.’ I liked how everything ties in with the lyrics.”
He described having the opportunity to showcase his work on the Late Late Show as an “honour”.
“I’m from West Cork and the Late Late Show has always been big, especially in country households. It was always an ambition of mine to either get my work or get myself on the Late Late Show. I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity.”
