Two men taken to hospital following incident at Cork pharma plant discharged

TWO people who were taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) on Friday evening following an incident in Ringaskiddy have been discharged from the hospital.

The incident occurred before 6pm on Friday at the Janssen Sciences Ireland plant, The Echo understands.

It is understood three people came into contact with a chemical substance and received medical treatment.

Following the incident, Janssen Sciences Ireland confirmed that three individuals were treated at the scene by Janssen first responders and emergency services were contacted.

Two of the three individuals were subsequently taken to CUH by ambulance.

Speaking to The Echo on Saturday, a spokesperson for Janssen Sciences Ireland said that both men had since been discharged from hospital.

Following the incident, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a premises in Ringaskiddy in Cork at around 6pm this evening.

“Three people have received medical treatment.

“The HSA (Health and Safety Authority) have been notified.” 

 The HSA has said it is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation.
