Three people have received medical treatment, one of whom was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH), following an incident in Ringaskiddy this evening.

Three people have received medical treatment, two of whom were taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH), following an incident in Ringaskiddy this evening.

The incident occurred before 6pm at the Janssen Sciences Ireland plant, The Echo understands.

It is understood three people came into contact with a chemical substance.

A Garda spokesperson said:

“Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a premises in Ringaskiddy in Cork at around 6pm this evening.

“Three people have received medical treatment..

“The HSA (Health and Safety Authority) have been notified.”

 The HSA said: "We are aware of the incident and have launched an investigation."

In a statement, Janssen Sciences Ireland confirmed that an incident occurred at approximately 17:15 at its facility in Ringaskiddy.

“The safety of those working on our site is paramount. Three individuals were treated at the scene by Janssen First Responders.

"As per procedures, the emergency services were contacted. Two of the individuals were subsequently taken to CUH by ambulance."
