MAXI ZOO has announced the opening of its thirtieth store in the country, and fifth in Cork, creating eight new jobs.

The newest store has opened at the Kinsale Road Retail Park in Turner’s Cross.

The pet retailer, which first opened in Cork in 2006, also has stores in Ballincollig, Blackpool, Mahon, and Midleton.

The chain now employs 305 staff in Ireland and plans to recruit further in 2024.

Commenting on the new store opening at Turner’s Cross, Maxi Zoo Ireland head of marketing Anthony Cremin said:

“The opening of our 30th store in Ireland is a testament to Maxi Zoo’s huge growth and success here since we started out in Cork less than two decades ago.

“We’re especially proud of our level of engagement with good causes since we opened our first store in 2006 —through numerous campaigns we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of euro for animal charities right across the country.”

To mark the new opening, a family fun weekend is planned for later this month (January 27 and 28) at the Turner’s Cross store with face painting, balloon modellers, a live in-store DJ, giveaways and goodies across Saturday and Sunday.

There will also be a ‘Pupparazi and Cat Walk’ event where shoppers are encouraged to bring along their pets to walk the red carpet and be in with a chance of winning the prestigious title of ‘Cork’s cutest’ cat or dog.

Celebrations at Maxi Zoo Turner’s Cross will take place from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, January 27, and on Sunday, January 28.

There will also be 20% off everything in the Turner’s Cross store for the duration of the weekend.

See www.maxizoo.ie for details of the event.
