A GROUP of local secondary school students were among those who recently came together for a heartwarming Christmas choir performance in Cork to raise funds for a well-known homeless charity.

Students from Presentation Secondary School, Ballyphehane showcased their musical talents and community spirit as they participated in the choir performance at the Marina Market to raise funds for Cork Simon.

Established in 1971, Cork Simon offers care, housing and support to more than a thousand men and women each year.

The charity also supports people living in private rented accommodation, in city and county council houses and in accommodation provided by various housing associations; supporting people to keep their tenancies and to begin leaving homelessness behind.

It also provides a health team, a drug treatment and aftercare service and an employment and training service.

Dozens of people took to the Marina Market in the days before Christmas to raise funds for the Cork charity, and among them were students from Presentation Ballyphehane.

A spokesperson for the school stated:

“The talented students, known for their award-winning choir, delivered a captivating performance that delighted both market-goers and organisers alike.

“The event was made possible by the generous sponsorship of Martin Twomey, who provided the transportation for the event.

“Mr Twomey’s support exemplifies the strong community ties and collaborative efforts that make events like these possible.

“Following the choir performance, the students took to the skating rink in the market,” the spokesperson added.

“The joy and enthusiasm displayed by the students added to the festive atmosphere, making it a memorable day for both participants and spectators. The school remains committed to nurturing talent, fostering community engagement, and instilling a sense of responsibility among its students.”
