The final few days of 2023 will bring blustery conditions, according to the latest forecast from Met Éireann, with possible “cyclonic variable winds” over the weekend.
A mix of sunny spells and showers have been forecast for Munster today, with highest temperatures of between 5 and 8 degrees, dipping to lows of 0 to 3 degrees overnight.
Some localised frost and icy stretches may form tonight, with “light to moderate southwesterly or variable breezes”.
However, cloud will build from the southwest, turning milder as the rain follows, accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds.
Met Éireann has also said there is a “chance of transient falls of sleet on the leading edge of the rain” overnight.
From 2am a status yellow wind and rain warning will come into effect for Cork and counties Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Mayo and Wexford.
The warning, in place until 11pm tomorrow, will see “strong and gusty” southwest winds at times coupled with heavy rain and thundery showers.

Potential impacts of the adverse conditions may include surface flooding, wave overtopping, debris and objects becoming displaced and difficult travelling conditions, Met Éireann said.
Another status yellow wind warning for Cork, Clare and Kerry and Limerick will come into effect at 11pm and will remain in place until 5pm on Sunday.
According to the current national outlook, Sunday will be “breezy or windy with sunny spells and scattered showers and a chance of hail”.
“Fresh to strong and gusty westerly or cyclonic variable winds will gradually decrease moderate to fresh and gusty through the day,” the forecaster said.
On Sunday night, New Year’s Eve, showers will “continue overnight, mainly for Atlantic counties with longer spells of rain possible in the northwest”.
Some frost or ice will form with lowest temperatures of -1 to 3 degrees in “mostly moderate westerly winds”.
New Year's Day will bring sunny spells and scattered showers at first, “becoming more isolated through the morning and early afternoon”.
