A CORK Bus Éireann employee has been recognised for her efforts in driving the company to a more sustainable future.
Cork woman Stephanie Maher accepted the award at Bus Éireann’s national annual Go the Extra Mile Awards during which the company celebrated its employees’ achievements in 2023.
The awards recognise excellent customer service, community impact, performance, and forward-thinking.
Awards were issued in several different categories including Apprentice of the Year, Depot of the Year, Executive of the Year, as well as driver and community awards.
One of the most acclaimed prizes on the night was the Going Green: Energy & Environment Award, of which Ms Maher was the winner.
Ms Maher has been at the forefront of the drive to a more sustainable future at Bus Éireann thanks to her professionalism and dedication.
Colleagues who nominated Ms Maher for the award were highly complimentary of her as a great person to work with.
Her innovative solutions are seen in her work regarding the solar and environmental standards in bus depots.
Ms Maher has also progressed a project to introduce renewable biofuel to school buses in Ballina.
Following the ceremony, a spokesperson for Bus Éireann said the award is a strong reminder of all the fantastic, necessary work that Ms Maher is doing as a member of the Bus Éireann family in a vital department for both the future of the company and Ireland’s path to a more sustainable, green, and more energy-efficient public transport network.
The award was presented to Ms Maher by Bus Éireann chief safety and sustainability officer Rory Leahy and Bus Éireann chief executive officer Stephen Kent.
Meanwhile, Bus Éireann has confirmed that it has carried out over 99m passenger journeys this year, and currently holds a 91% customer satisfaction rating.
