Met Éireann issue update on the likelihood of a White Christmas this year

For those dreaming of a white Christmas, Met Éireann has issued an update which they say may leave some disappointed.
In an update on X, Mark Bowe of Met Éireann said for those asking the question, 'Is it going to snow on Christmas Day?', the answer is that it is "not looking very likely"

He said that high pressure in the Atlantic has been streaming mild air over the country over the past few days and that this is likely to continue to Christmas.
Instead, he said, people can expect a mild, cloudy day on Christmas Day with some outbreaks of rain and temperatures of around 6 to 10 degrees.
Temperatures on Christmas night will be 2 to 5 degrees, he said, adding "not quite cold enough for snow I'm afraid".
